“I would like to clearly state that I was not in Mexico in June. I have therefore misinformed both the UCI and the public. It is however important for me to stress that at no point did I lie to the Rabobank team," Rasmussen said. Rasmussen insisted that his employer Rabobank knew the truth. "I have never told lies to Rabobank. They knew all the time where I was and why.”—
that’s right chicken boy, blame the team. that will take your mind off what a fucking idiot you are. here’s an idea… why don’t you enter a mountain bike race with a yellow jersey on? oh wait, you’ve already done that.
“Obviously the two Italian stages, especially the one going up to nearly 3000 meters [the Restefond on stage 16], that’ll be something entirely new. Normally you never go close to that altitude in the Tour.”—Slipstream-Chipotle bosses planning Tour debut
Defending Giro d’Italia champ Danilo Di Luca finds himself with so few contract prospects for next season that he’s made the extraordinary step of securing his own sponsors to underwrite his salary in the hopes of offering his services to a team for 2008 at a bargain-basement price.
I’ve said this before but… if you really want to clean up doping in cycling, this is one of very few ways that will actually work. you have to hit the teams where it hurts. and nothing hurts the teams more than yanking the sponsorship.
“A man who admitted having sex with a bicycle in a Scottish hotel has been placed on the sex offenders’ register for breach of the peace. …The accused was holding the bike and moving his hips back and forth as if to simulate sex, a sheriff’s spokesman told the court.”—
“Further statements and accusations won’t bring us any further," Jaksche said. "We know now, how it was. Now we have to look forward and see to it that an anti-doping program like T-Mobile has takes effect. That way cycling will have another chance.”—
that was tough. but what was i expecting? this was my 2nd ride in 3 weeks.
we watched the eugene train depart on 22. the only one who didn’t hesitate was junior. i was stuck in the pack pondering the level of craziness i was willing to commit to. is the train going to be the usual run-of-the-mill eugene crazy? or is it going to be like tom cruise on oprah crazy? either way i had no choice but to sit back and watch the others.
tom and jp didn’t waste much time before jumping across as everyone yelled out in unison “this is the move!”. that could’ve been the end of that but we had some determined folks giving an honest chase.
the first half of the ride up to the airport road was a giant yo-yo fest. we would bring them back only to watch a group of half dozen riders jump again.
the final snap came on the double whammy where the group finally gave up to close the gap. i think it was jp, eugene, junior, will, that messenger dude and clarence who put in a strong ride today on his new bad ass bmc with specialized tri-spoke on the rear.
the pack had begun to shatter at this point into micro-packs. i was barely hanging on to the second group. i don’t think i pulled once the whole way but still almost got shelled out a couple of times.
our group rode beautifully. those with legs (like cleo and paul) put in the lion’s share of work. even when we started to sense that we weren’t going to catch the attackers, the boys at the front kept the pace high and rotated.
i ended up trying to lead out on the humps for anyone who was still interested in sprinting. tom came through and won it by a couple of blocks.
Hello, avid readers of velogogo! Yes, I’m talking to both of you. Listen up please.
Velogogo has moved into a new home. The problem, if you haven’t already noticed, was that the platform this blog was running on (pmwiki) and my hosting service provider (dreamhost) were not getting along and there did’t appear to be a permanent solution to the performance problem which had been plaguing this site for quite some time.
I’m starting a new site here. It’s now running on Tumblr. Tumblr is what the hip kids are calling microblog or tumblog. Basically it means a blog that better caters to busy people who wants to collect short snippets of anything they want - such as text, photos, videos, links and so on.
Few things to remember…
This move will require some fancy domain forwarding so there could a period where you might notice strange behaviors or even the site being down completely.
All archives of velogogo will be gone completely. Why? Three reasons:
(1) It will be damn near impossible to restore velogogo archives where it’s going
(2) There really isn’t anything that interesting that I want to hold on to in the archives
(3) The new format of velogogo will be very different than its current form.
The new site will be heavy on the ADD-inflicted snippets of links, quotes, pictures and videos. No more trying to write something insightful about the sport of cycling which I never had any time or talent for to begin with. It will be different but I hope you will find it entertaining.
Oh and I will try to continue to post my Gimbel’s ride recaps here but unfortunately there is no user comment support on Tumblr yet so you will just have to accept my words as God’s truth.
